My observation is that some publishers are reluctant to take a chance on this little LitRPG genre in particular - fearing that it won't expand to include mainstream fantasy/sci-fi readers. If I had pitched AO to traditional publishers before going to market, it might have taken years to hit Amazon. Whether it worked or not, I have no idea!įull disclosure, I've been looking at the traditional publishing side lately. I wanted to try something a little different. I mean, you don't have to bounce between multiple plotlines - which is why people gravitate toward it. The trapped in game model is easier structurally. Re Jason as a necromancer, I remember reading a story on RRL (can't remember the title now) and thinking to myself "I would have just leveled the starter town." I'd have to hard enter the sales data into Excel to produce a chart (which I have not done yet!). The Amazon KDP software only shows sales graphically up to 90 days. Even if you wrote the best book ever - who would know? ![]() It's hard for noobie authors starting out. Writing as a web serial before publishing definitely helped.
